Marine Le Pen who is currently leading the polls for France’s Presidential election has sparked controversy today after walking out of a meeting with Lebanon’s Grand Mufti. The leader of the Front National cancelled the meeting last minute after she was told she must wear a head-scalf by one of his advisors.
Le Pen had this to say about the incident:
“The highest Sunni authority didn’t have this requirement, but it doesn’t matter.”
“You can pass on my respects to the grand mufti, but I will not cover myself up,”
Head-scalfs in France have been banned in schools since 2004, and the full-face covering Burqa and Niqab were banned in 2011.
In possibly the greatest act of real feminism by a female politician this year so far, Le Pen has shown that she is a women of conviction and will always stand up for the modern, western, democratic values third wave feminists often take for granted.
